Today I clocked my 100th plasma donation. I'm posting this to encourage those of you who might be considering donating, to do so. The NZ Blood Service needs more plasma, blood and platelet donors. As a plasma donor I try to get along every fortnight, health permitting. I've done this most of my life but this record has been achieved in the last 12yrs. I admire those who have achieved 200 or 300 donations. There is nothing more rewarding than giving a part of yourself to save others.#nzbloodservice

Share Message - Heat: The silent killer stalking Australia's summerThis is starting to be an issue in NZ too. This needs a shift in public expectations for new subdivisions and affordable housing. Developers need to stop covenants stipulating minimum house sizes to be no less than 200sqm. Smaller homes on the same sized sections would enable small trees to planted to provide shade. Architects need to go back to designing houses with adequate eaves to keep the sun out. All new houses should have light coloured roofs to reflect the sun. It's so horrible to see so many new subdivisions as a sea of dark roofs. It needs a shift in both public and business attitudes to ensure future housing developments are sustainable and livable, not places to perish.https://lnkd.in/gHtjRCAi

World Blood Donors Day Wednesday 14th June 2023. Today was my 123rd donation. Please consider becoming a donor as there is a critical shortage of donors in this country. One of my regrets in leaving Christchurch for Nelson, is that I won't be able to give my fortnightly plasma donation, because Nelson does not have a dedicated blood donation centre. So which one of you will take up the slack and cover for me 😉#NZBlood #donor

These findings won't be a surprise to any freshwater scientist. It requires really thorough national legislation to enable all contaminants to be dealt with appropriately across multiple land use activities. To give regional and local agencies power to stop further environmental degradation. I'm happy to be proven wrong but I think it's optimistic to think that we will start to see improvement in water quality in five years. Much of this environmental degradation is a legacy of 150 yrs plus land use abuse across rural and urban environments. Yes I agree that it will take at least a generation to see change. We are all responsible for this mess and therefore need to work collectively to improve the state of the environment at all levels. May the great mahi being done by so many people and organizations across the country continue to grow and bring about much needed positive change.#waterways #environment #waterquality #freshwater

Happy Easter from the West Coast of the South Island. This little woodland fellow is next to an Entoloma hochstetteri, also known as the blue pinkgill, sky-blue mushroom or similar names, is a species of mushroom that is native to New Zealand. The small mushroom is a distinctive all-blue colour, while the gills have a slight reddish tint from the spores. The blue colouring of the fruit body is due to azulene pigments. The Māori name for the mushroom is werewere-kōkako, because its colour is similar to the blue wattle of the kōkako bird. The mushroom also features on the NZ $50 banknote.
